Weekend Geocaching report

04/29/07
Well no car so today’s caching will be via bike. I am going to look for a couple along route 40 towards White Marsh. I left the Apt. Around 8:30 am. The first one I attempted was a Cache and Dash WilmotModular Phobia. GCRPZM Wilmot Modular was the name of an industry it was in front of. I looked all along the fence and around some small trees that were there but came up empty handed. Not a good start.

Next up was The Diner Cache. I new where this Diner was having passed it a couple of times on the way to Hammerton Beach area. With the clue, logs and GPS it was obvious where it should be. But it said it was held in place with strong magnets and when I found a magnet nearby I thought it was gone. But a little more looking and I found it. Took a St. Maarten key chain and left a Miller keychain.
Caching R Us
Was next in line. I was watching the GPS and it guided me into the woods. I followed and had to build my self a rock bridge across a small stream. About another quarter mile and I crossed a paved road that I could have come down. The cache was about 500ft off this road in a swampy area. Took a pair of dice and left an Eeyore ring. Then I took the road back to 40 and continued to Silly Cone. GCMFWM. This was in the back of a Home Depot parking lot by some pine trees. From the name I was looking for a fake pine cone maybe magnetic against the barricade But Came up with a DNF.

On the way back looked for WilmotModular Phobia again but still didn’t find it.

I mad it back home totally exhausted after about 7 hours and 20 miles of biking/caching. Took a hot shower and bath and laid down for a while.
04/28/07
I thought I lost my cell phone last night so I was up and biking to the office to look for it and then was going to go back to the caches we were at last night to look. Well it was on my desk when I got to the office, Thank God. So now I could spend the day caching. First on the list was:
Lister-Mean

I found this one before I used the giveaway hint. Then I picked up a bag full of cans. On the way out I threw another soft and fuzzy thing at the cache. Next finder might want to remove it.

Then I went back after Old Belcamp #2. This time with the right clues and some different thinking I found it. It was still tough because none orf the cache was actually showing and no external markings.

Next on the list was I95 Travel Bug Hotel. This is the one Arshad and I went after last week. This time I walked right up to the first stage and not much problem with the second either.
Took another crack at Off the Rocker but too many muggels around. A couple of up and downs then gave up.

04/27/07
Went caching with Mike a friend from work after work today. We went for 3 caches that were close to his house and only a couple of miles from work.

Old Belcamp Rd #1 Mike found this one. We did a lot of hunting and then he just spied it. It was a film canister laying on a broken tree. Part of the problem with all three of the Old Belcamp caches is that non of them had any Geocaching marks at all.
Old Belcamp #2
We missed this one Friday night but I went back on Sat. Mike found the other two and probably would have this one found this one too but I was reading the wrong clues. But there was not any of this cache showing,

Old Belcamp #3
Another find for Mike. I was on it early in the hunt but didn’t look close enough. A good Camo job.

04/21/07
Spent 6 hours caching today. Went to Phoenix, MD to find three caches there. Met up with Grey Ghost1 at The Dead Kennedy, he was logging it as I came upon it. It was called a “Dead Kennedy because Kennedy was the manufacture of Fire Hydrants and this one was no longer in use. We went on to find Can you see me now (a Chameleon over a small bullet type cache hidden in a tree stump) and then he help me find the Phoenix and the Turtle which is the main one I came looking for because it was just hidden a week ago. We were the second and third to find. When I first went to find Phoenix and the Turtle I came upon a rock ledge and looked for about an hour. When I returned with Grey Gohst1 He walked right to it at a spot at least 30 feet away from where I had been looking and he said is GPS still showed it 60 feet away. The cache was a rather large sparrow looking bird with a small cache in it, This was part of my problem I was looking for a Micro cache along the wall thatg had a million places to hide one. Greg Ghost1 gave me the coordinates for Wren you come home and I found it before leaving the Phoenix area.

Ugly, Uglier, Ugliest
Found this one with out too much hunting. The area is really wet right now. The cache was on the ground with a pen. I put it back where I thought it should be. Then I went for BSA Trail. I tried the route in the cache description but it was hard to follow and I lost the orange trail. Plus I had not marked the car. So I went back to the road marked it then walked back down the trail until I was parallel to the catch and then I walked in from there. This is the only cache I took and left something today. I took a Coyote and left a soccer ball whistle.

So I ended up with 6 finds for 6 tries in 6 hours. A Great day of caching especially because Phoenix was about a so minute drive.
04/22/07
Went to church this morning then came back to the Apt. to take pictures of items I am going to try and sell before heading back to MN. I finished around 11:00 AM this and had promised to help at a St. Jude Bikeathon at Holy Spirit 12:45. There was a cache between here and Holy Spirit so I decided to try for it on the way. Dads Birthday Cache. I parked on Jones road and then walked down 40 until I was parallel and then walked in and found it without much problems. I left my homeward bound Travel bug and a puff ball, took a radio. When I left I found a parking lot for Gunpowder Falls at: N39.24.773 W076.23.274. Hope some one finds this and get MN Homeward bound moving.

Sweet at Marsh Point Nature center was next but I missed it. On the other side of the Nature Center was CAM 2005. It was down White Tail Dear trail and I did see two White Tailed Deer. They ran into the marsh then stopped to look at me but before I could get the camera on they took off again. Picked up Capella Pride TB 3jfgv5 and left Amposta, Spain Travel Bug. TB1BTXJ

Since I was having such good luck I thought I would try for a couple of others that I had missed before. Sing Sing was first and I found it. Reflections was next still couldn’t find it then I found 1 for the record.

Geocaching on a Friday afternoon/evening

04/20/07

Two out of three today. Unfortunately the one I really wanted is the one I missed. I took my boss out for an afternoon break and I wanted to start my MN Homeward Bound travel bug. See description below.
I-95 travel Port Bug Hotel
Went looking for this one with my Boss Arshad at lunch time. I really wanted to find it to start my MN Homeward Bound Travel Bug. We looked for almost an hour at both of the coordinates and came up empty handed. I’ll be watching it to see if I can pick up any more hints from the logs.
Dumb as a Pile of rocks.
I drove around for a while then finally parked behind Patterson school. It was an easy walk to the cache and easy find. This was good because I had a DNF earlier in the day with my boss. These Canadian Geese landed on the pond on my way out. Took a dragon ring and left a sports whistle.
Stump the UMP
On the way back from Dumb as a Pile of rocks I figured I would give this a third try maybe be successes would hold out. GPS ran out of batteries but I new where to start looking. I replaced the batteries and before it reset it self I had found the cache. I happily signed the log and re-hid the cache.

MN Homeward Bound My current goal:Please help me get back to Minnesota. I am starting my journey near my temporary home of Edgewood, MD. I really would like to get back to my first hidden cache "Little Black Box" in East Bethel, MN at N 45° 23.273 W 093° 15.222 waypoint GCZVXD URL: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=982d1f4f-061c-44c7-817b-ee9db15acbfe.

Geocaching on Good Friday

03/06/07
Today was a good caching day we (Doug, David, and myself) found 5 out of 6 caches. I am pretty sure the one we did not find was missing but I will put it on a watch list.
Norris Lake Stash We searched for a while but then found on this Cold spring day (Good Friday). Grandpa found this one. We took a small bobber and left a whistle.
Just What The Doctor Ordered? Doug snared this one after we had both been almost face to face with it. Took the Diabetes travel bug and left a whistle.
Walk in the Park
Another find for Doug. Took a coin and left waterproof matches.
"We're all just a bunch of nuts!" Another find for Doug. Took a Viking keychain bottle opener. I am going to take this to Maryland and start a travel bug with instructions to find its way back to Minneapolis. There was also a game that David wanted so we left a whistle and a pencil sharpener.
Woodbury Park Micro
Grandpa found this one. The log was frozen, did not try to sign it afraid it would have torn up. TNLN.
Here's lookin' at you kid! I thought for sure with the hint we would find this one but no luck. This may be missing because of the trees that have been cut down. It was only about 20 degrees and the wind came up and made us run for the car.

Geocach 3-11-07

03/11/07
Rode my bike to the following three caches. They were 6 to 7 miles from Apt. I didn’t find any of them but picked up sack of cans, A Christmas towel, a baseball, and a pillow. Took some pictures of St. Mary’s church a Russian Catholic Orthodox Catholic church I visited last year the sign is new. Also took this highway marker. I had a couple of these on my old GPS but lost the coordinates. Starting to collect them again. Coordinates are in the name of the file.

GCJBN3 Sing-sing
I poked all around the thorns but didn't find it.
GCY03J Reflections
Looked at everything that shined but didn't find it.
GCJXC1 One for the RECKORD Book

Another no find for me. I need some more hints if anybody wants to send them to me.

Geocaching 3-10-07

Off Your Rocker in Bel Air.
Before I moved here I stayed at the hotel next door several times. As soon as I was on the exit I knew where this was going to be. But I feel a little bad two people found it in the last couple of days and I didn't. If anybody wants to send me a hint I'll take it. Although I prefer caches in the woods this is close so I could look again

Hydrowaffelhousegraphy
Second one in a row DNF. From the definition I swear I was all over it but came up empty handed. If anybody has another hint I’ll take it.

Golden Acorn
I'm getting discouraged 3rd DNF in a row.

3/3/07 Caching

"N-NANNY"

Found this one easily walked right up to it. Good thing too it is the only 1 of 5 attempted that I found today. I left a pencil for the log and a jar opener. Took two balloons. Another beautiful day for caching

Bynum Run Hoot
Like the previous cachers I couldn't find this one either. Look at the pictures this is the riverbank were it should have been. But it was a nice hike and a great day.

Stump The Ump
I Looked in all the holes in all of the trees around GZ but couldn't find it.

BIG BLUE
I guess today wasn't my day. I walked past Big Blue and down to the stream. Found an empty zip lock container but no lid and nothing around. I don't know if it was the cache or not.

C&D: Dutailorably
Looked all around the corner, couldn't find it.

My gross job

First want to say thanks for all the prayers for our trip. Our vacation to Disney was amazing. The best trip we have ever taken.

Since I am typing this at work and I am having a really gross night I figured I would share. I remember how much my dad enjoyed this when I worked ambulance. Tonight I have gotten to touch a pectoral muscle (chest muscle). A patient of mine decide to use holistic med to treat her breast cancer. She now has no breast on one side and you can see the muscle.

Another patient has been the victim of poor nursing home care. I got to touch his coxxyc bone and in the morning I will get to touch the bones of his lower leg where his leg was ambutated.

I have also had some great oders tonight: rotting flesh, digested blood, emesis, urine, feces, C. Diff.

Here's hoping you all take care of yourself. Holistic med has it's place but its not the only way. Prayer is also a great healer. Just remeber that God gives us all a talent. The talent he gave me was to help you. My nursing skill come from Him and only Him. If you have a family member in a nursing home visit the frequently. This is how they get the best care!!!!!!

Buying new GPS

Well I complained to Mom that I lost the GPS so she bought a new one from E-bay. Same model so I don't have to learn new workings and the case and Bicycle mount still work. I figure if I don't turn the heat on in the apartment for the next 30 days I should be able to pay for it.

Bosley Conservatory Library Cache

I hid this cache yesterday. Guess this will be my last GEO-Cache for a while. I lost my GPS on the way back out. When I got back to the apartment and was going to complete the entry I looked for the GPS in my coat pocket and it was not there. I immediately retraced my route back to the cache I could not find it. Went back again this morning before work and still didn't find it.

This is a library cache please bring a book, video, DVD, or CD to exchange. It is an Ammo box 3.5 X 10 X 7. It has a log book, pencil, pencil sharper and the books. Blind Side by Catherine Coulter, and A perfect Spy by John LeCarre and the video The Art of War, Wesley Snipes. Each one in its own zip lock bag. I left The Kona Travel bug here too. Please fill out the log book and log your visit @ http://www.geocaching.com/.

Famster

Hey, I forgot one - Famster is supposed to be MySpace for families. It might be more of what you're looking for in a site for the family to get together and share information.

http://famster.com/

February tidbits

It's February and the temperature remains in the single digits where in MN, so here are a few various items for midwinter reading:

The winter doldrums are upon us and there hasn't been much email traffic in a while so I wanted to forward a few interesting things.

A. KVSC trivia weekend - KVSC St. Cloud is doing their trivia weekend this weekend, 50 hours of minutae. Every time I hear about this contest it makes me wish I had gone to SCSU so I could have played. It's open to everyone and you can listen on the web over streaming radio, but it just wouldn't be the same. Plus, the team names on the scores page are fun to read.

http://www.kvsc.org/trivia/news.html

B. Defense of marriage in Washington state - a ballot initiative in WA state would redefine the marriage laws to impose an automatic annullment on any marriage not showing "proof of procreation" within three years of the wedding date. It would also define as invalid any out-of-state marriage which did not show the same proof within the three years. It's satire as law but there are interesting side effects.

http://www.wa-doma.org/Default.aspx

C. A thousand and one photos, highest rated: not sure who does the rating but they have some pretty incredible photos here, including the Pulitzer winner of a vulture watching a Sudanese boy drag himself toward a food camp. Not all photos are as dark as that, some are quite beautiful, including one of boats that appear to be floating on air over crystal-clear water in the Maldives.

http://www.athousandandone.com/search/_rating/

D. Jack Bauer vs. Aqua Teen Hunger Force: if you heard about what happened in Boston and watch both Aqua Teen Hunger Force and "24", you'll laugh. Also, you're me, so my condolences.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWUaQVZHzyI

E. Your friends and neighbors and people you've never heard of: one of the hottest topics on the web (now in a phase being called Web 2.0, 1.0 being the dot-com era) is the concept of collaborative filtering/social aggregation, where users get together on sites and rank stories of potential interest. This is a pretty good overview but it leaves out popurls.com, which is my personal home page now:

http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB117106531769704150-zpK10wf4CJOB4IKoJS5anuNoi6Y_20080209.html

That's it from me, might be just wasting bits but I hope not.

geocaching 2/10/07

02/10/07
Barking Up the Wrong Tree
Since I really liked this park I returned today to try and find Barking Up the Wrong Tree. I used the coordinates listed for log; October 10, 2005 by mdparrots
N 39° 23.787 W 076° 20.991 At least they didn’t point me into the water. I found this after looking on several trees. This is where I found it: N 39° 23.784 W 076° 20.992 It was not where I thought it wood be. Glad I had a small knife with me. “The hole in one might be a little higher.” Signed the log and left a Praying Mantis.

N 39° 28.400 W 076° 20.367
I didn't really even attempt this because I couldn't find any place to park. Could someone send me coordinates for a parking place?

N 39° 28.170 W 076° 20.099I didn't find this one because I had the hints mixed up with another cache I was looking for today. But where do you park for this cache? Could someone send me coordinates to park?

Conserve, Recycle, Global Warming

Global Warming:
Drive Smart!A well-tuned car with properly inflated tires burns less gasoline—cutting pollution and saving you money at the pump. If you have two cars, drive the one with better gas mileage whenever possible. Better yet, skip the drive and take public transit, walk, or bicycle when you can.

Write your leaders now. Urge them to raise fuel economy standards to 40 miles per gallon. Modern technology can make our cars and trucks go farther on a gallon of gas. It's the biggest single step we can take to curb global warming. The less gasoline we burn, the less CO2 we put into the air. Taking this step would also save nearly 4 million barrels of oil a day — more oil than we currently import from the Persian Gulf and could ever extract from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge combined. And by saving gas, you save nearly $2,000 at the pump over the life of your car.

Support clean, renewable energy. Renewable energy solutions, such as wind and solar power, can reduce our reliance on coal-burning power plants, the largest source of global warming pollution in the United States. Call your local utility and sign up for renewable energy. If they don't offer it, ask them why not?

Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.Especially those that burn the longest each day. Compact fluorescents produce the same amount of light as normal bulbs, but use about a quarter of the electricity and last ten times as long. Each switch you make helps clean the air today, curb global warming, and save you money on your electricity bill.
Saving energy at home is good for the environment and for your wallet.Start with caulking and weather-stripping on doorways and windows. Then adjust your thermostat and start saving. For each degree you lower your thermostat in the winter, you can cut your energy bills by 3 percent. Finally, ask your utility company to do a free energy audit of your home to show you how to save even more money.

Become a smart water consumer.Install low-flow showerheads and faucets and you'll use half the water without decreasing performance. Then turn your hot water heater down to 120°F and see hot-water costs go down by as much as 50 percent.

Buy energy-efficient electronics and appliances.Replacing an old refrigerator or an air conditioner with an energy-efficient model will save you money on your electricity bill and cut global warming pollution. Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances or visit their website at http://www.energystar.gov/ to find the most energy-efficient products.

Plant a Tree, protect a forest.Protecting forests is a big step on the road to curbing global warming. Trees "breathe in" carbon dioxide, but slash-and-burn farming practices, intensive livestock production, and logging have destroyed 90 percent of the native forests in the United States. And you can take action in your own backyard — planting shade trees around your house will absorb CO2, and slash your summer air-conditioning bills.

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!Producing new paper, glass, and metal products from recycled materials saves 70 to 90 percent of the energy and pollution, including CO2, that would result if the product came from virgin materials. Recycling a stack of newspapers only 4 feet high will save a good-sized tree. Please...buy recycled products!

I reuse everything I can including the plastic garbage liners (I have only used 2 liners since I have been here). Reuse sandwich bags. Re use plastic cups and silverware. (Is that what you call plastic spoons, knives and forks? ) Recycle aluminum cans. We get over $100 a year by recycling cans. every timeI ride my bike and go Geocaching I pick up cans. My little deck is about 1/5 full of cans. Think I will wait until April (1year here,Ugh!) then recycle and see how much I get.

Mount a local campaign against global warming.Educate your community about how it can cut global warming pollution. Support measures at the national, state, and local level that:

Make automobiles go further on a gallon of gas;
Accelerate the use of clean, renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind;

Increase energy efficiency and conservation; and Preserve forests around the world.

• Use cold water, instead of hot water for laundry and dishwashing machines.
• Plant shrubs or trees to shade your air conditioning unit.

Caching on Superbowl Sunday

Superbowl Sunday just above Freezing. But another sunny day so I had to go out caching. Mariner Point Park http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/parks_rec/Parks.cfm?ParkID=73

is in Joppatown, MD along the Gunpowder River. I liked the paved trail; they encourage feeding the birds and squirrels which as you can see tames them and let's you get real close and great pictures.

http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=8v4lcwf.9rarknvv&x=1&y=-ji2oks

Ethan’s Party
This was my first of 3 finds out of 4 attempted today. Signed the log, took a Praying Mantis and left a Cinderella pendant.

Squirrel Farm
2nd find of the day took the Travel Bug and left a compass.
Picked up the cute little Bug. Hope it makes it to Hawaii some day. Will place next weekend if possible.

Barking up the wrong Tree.
Didn't find my GPS said it was across the river. Is this accessible from Mariner Park? I found Ethan's Party and Squirrel Farm.

R. C. Oasis

Had to call my daughter to confirm my suspicion concerning the hint and where this cache was located. Signed the log and left a dime. This was my third find out of 4 attempts today on Superbowl Sunday. Temperature was just above freezing but another sunny day.

Cunion Field Cache Found

It was just above freezing and the by the way of the GPS it was just over a mile via the rode about 1.5 miles so a nice bike ride.

This was my third attempt to find this. Since I didn't find it the first time I thought the GPS was off. The hint was "Under the Beam". So the 2nd time I looked around every beam in a covered picnic area. This time even though it was 500 feet off I looked around ever big light around the soccer field. Then I went back to where the GPS said it was which was around a drain in another field. I looked here both of the other times I was here. The first time I found a nice pocket knife but not the cache. Using the little headlight that Mom gave me I looked inside the drain under a beam and it was a small magnetic holder. To small to leave anything just signed the log, a strip of paper.

Sunday's Geocache 1-28-07

Here is the result of today's Geocaching. I wasn't going to go out because it was only about 38 degrees and misting and snowing. But finished up some other stuff I wanted to do by noon so I headed out. All three of these are ones John and I attempted last summer. Jody share this with John see if he remembers looking for them

I am up to 21 finds so it is time to hide another one. I am going to make a library cache. I will stock it with some paper backs and ask people to bring a book to exchange. I am going to try and find an amo box for it.

So far I have found 10 and missed 3 within 3 miles of the Apartment. There are19 more within 5 miles of the apartment.

I will post this and future Geocaching activities to the blog site so if your interested you can look there:

Van Bibber Park and Cache
This is a cache my grandson and I looked for at the beginning of summer when he was here for a visit. I had just received the GPS for a father's day present and was new to Geo-caching. We didn't find it then. Got it today. Left a orange sponge ball. I also picked up a whole sack of aluminum cans including 3 beers that had never been opened.
John, This one was at the park and ride. It was hidden inside one of the lamp post. We didn’t find it before, I wasn’t expecting it to be in the lamp post thought it should be under one of the trees.
Bush River Bonanza in the Estuary center

John, remember the Estuary Center? We parked at the center and took the trail back. This time I parked on the corner of 40 and Otter Point road. Walked down 40 until GPS said I was parallel with the cache. Then walked in, up and down the hills a little but pretty much walked right to it. I left a sponge soccer ball I found in the Park and Ride lot at the last cache.
C&D Bamboometric
This is the one that was at the end of a dead on street just before I-95. It was a magnetic cache. We looked on all of the signs and there was a fence with a bunch of metal post. I looked inside several of them and found it. It was a magnetic key holder. I left a Penney

Geocaching

I was 1 out of 2 today. I didn't find Blisterine but did find "Get to the Bottom of This. It was a small Tupperware that was full of ice. I broke the log book out of the ice and it was surprisingly in good shape. I left a red ball in the cache. On my way to the cache I passed this area that had all kinds of stuff. Suitcase, bags, coats, caps, BBQ grill, tubs, pocket watch, big mug, toothpaste, deodorant and more. I brought a tub, suitcase, a bag, cap and the watch back with me threw out the suitcase even though it was in pretty good shape I didn't know how to clean it up. I will look at the other stuff tomorrow see what is worth keeping and what I should pitch. Of course I picked up a bag of cans too. I found a bag and case from the first cache too. I also saw a toilet in route to both caches. I seem to see a lot of those.

I thought of a new idea. Posting the coordinates of the historical markers on the road. MD has lots of them and I have taken a picture of a lot them although I think I lost a bunch on one of the 1 time use cameras I was using that couldn't be developed. I took pictures of two today and marked the coordinates.

There is a site: http://www.waymarking.com/ you can post the coordinates for most anything. It is arranged in categories and subcategories but you have to be a premium member to create your own categories. There is a "Signs" category and I suggested a historical marker sub-subcategory. Well see if anybody starts it.

There is also http://www.waypoint.org/ that just collects way-points. I have added a bunch to that before maybe I will add the signs to it.

Here is the kind of sign I am talking about:

Picture

You can modify the site's template to include a picture reference but I don't know what you mean by "slider box". When I modify my blog it doesn't really give me a place for uploading a picture. Can you take a screen shot with [Alt]+[Print Scrn] and upload that?

Followup - Microwaving Sponges

Our fellow Americans, running wild with unlicensed particle acclerators (microwaves), limited science education and internet news items.

A team at the University of Florida found that two minutes in the microwave at full power could kill a range of bacteria, viruses and parasites on kitchen sponges.

They described how they soaked the sponges in wastewater and then zapped them. But several experimenters evidently left out the crucial step of wetting the sponge.

"Just wanted you to know that your article on microwaving sponges and scrubbers aroused my interest. However, when I put my sponge/scrubber into the microwave, it caught fire, smoked up the house, ruined my microwave, and pissed me off," one correspondent wrote in an e-mail to Reuters.

"First, the sponge is worthless afterwards so you have to throw it out instead of using it. And second your entire house stinks like a burning tire for several hours, even with windows/doors open," complained another.

Aaron Hoover, a press officer at the University of Florida, said several other news organizations received similar complaints, although no one had complained directly to the university.

"We figured, 'wow, we better let people know right away that the sponge should be wet,"' Hoover said in a telephone interview.

Microwave zaps germs on sponges, study finds

Ha! Your daughters (well, two of them) laughed at me when I did this.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/germs_sponges_dc

Two minutes in a microwave oven can sterilize most household sponges, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.

A team of engineering researchers at the University of Florida found that two minutes of microwaving on full power killed or inactivated more than 99 percent of bacteria, viruses or parasites, as well as spores, on a kitchen sponge.

My first blog entry

Howdy all,

I don't have much to say, just wanted to see how it worked.

Still playing with Blogging

Okay now I logged back in and saw the "New Post" button. I have added comments to both Angie and Lon's post but don't see them yet. I will check in later to see if they are there. I would like to rename this Blog to something like "Bennett Family Blog" but don't see how. Any suggestions?

Okay changed name. Need to click on "comment" to see comments to each post.

Well what do you think can we get the others active with the Blog?

Hello I am here

Hay,
I have never blogged befor. I am not sure what I am doing. Is this something only our family is going to see? Did you invite family for other states (Ill., Colorado)? What is the book club? Are you and Terry reading the same book and then discussing it? Can I join? How far are the two of you in the book?

Book Club - Field Notes From A Catastrophe

Right now the book club we are in (T and some of her friends, I read the books too so I got invited along) is reading Field Notes from a Catastrophe by Elisabeth Kolbert.

T has the printed book and I got the audiobook from the library; going to try listening to it on my walks. Audiobooks are nice because you can do other stuff while you listen to them, but they are slower too (I read pretty fast).

(addendum 1/25)

Listening to the book - it's a set of observations by Kolbert from visiting various locations in the world affected by global warming, the history of man's recognition of global warming and some of the science behind it.

So far I'm enjoying it because it's got science without being obssessed with details and it's a narrative without too much of the look-at-the-cool-people-I-hang-out-with that drug down The World Is Flat.

Plus, it's short - 200 pages inc. footnotes, probably 180-190 for the book itself.

Just putting a picture in this post. Think I will make this my new wallpaper for awhile. Going to publish then view to see if I can download the picture.

My Family blog site

Setting up this blog site. Got to go now but when I come back will see if I can figure out how to share with family.
